IndigenousCannabis.Info is your go to website for information about the rapidly developing Indigenous cannabis industry on Turtle Island. Our site brings together all available mainstream media coverage of cannabis as it relates to Indigenous people, as well as our own multi-media and in-depth reporting on the issue.
As a website, we unambiguously support the sovereign right of the Indigenous people of Turtle Island to plant the seeds of whatever plant they so desire on their lands. We also take a position that the cannabis plant – the oldest plant cultivated by humans – is of great value to humans and should be decriminalized, and that the “war on drugs” should be ended.
We are in agreement with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and highlight two particular articles of direct relevance to the question of today’s Indigenous cannabis Industry:
Article 20. Indigenous peoples have the right to maintain and develop their political, economic and social systems or institutions, to be secure in the enjoyment of their own means of subsistence and development, and to engage freely in all their traditional and other economic activities.
Article 24. Indigenous peoples have the right to their traditional medicines and to maintain their health practices, including the conservation of their vital medicinal plants, animals and minerals. Indigenous individuals also have the right to access, without any discrimination, to all social and health services.
